How to earn money of a domain – Different Models and approaches

13th Feb 2006 · Posted in Articles,Direct Navigation,Domainers by admin · 1 Comment

There are different ways to earn money of a domain, starting from ‘parking’ the domain with a PPC service to an actual developed site. This is an attempt to show different examples for development and to break down which levels of development may exist. Of course there are in-between levels for all of these – I am looking forward to hearing from you (via email or in the comments), which model works best for you. While the list is sorted by the amount of effort (less to more) that is required to maintain and build a site, this may of course vary on a individual basis.

  1. msrg.org screenshotGeneric PPC
A domain points to a simple lander page displaying generic categories and possibly a search that is unrelated to the domain name entered. This type of page is usually displayed when a domain name cannot be easily categorized.
  2. peanutbutterball.com screenshot Targeted PPC
An advertising page that shows ads targeted the domain name.
  3. lamp.com screenshotTraffic Categorization
A site that breaks down the targeted term into several categories and then displays related advertising.
  4. plantroses.com screenshotInfo Site with Ads
A site with a 3-10 pages of articles about one topic related to the domain name. This site will use a service like Google Adsense to show content-related advertising.
  5. flowers.com screenshotRedirected Traffic
A website that redirects to another website. For example a domainer could ‘rent’ out his targeted traffic to an advertising client this way.
  6. autofinder.com screenshotLead Taking Site
A page that gathers targeted information requests and rents or sells leads to businesses.
  7. perfume.com screenshotDeveloped Site
This is a very broad category, which ranges from a website with affiliate links to a fully developed and maintained website using a high traffic generic domain.
