Posting activity here is down to almost zero, and that’s because I’ve been busy (amongst other things), at our new blog Domain Name News. So decision time has come, and the decision is to integrate the posts from Domain Editorial into DNN, since I just can’t blog on two industry blogs.
I’ve already imported the posts and now need to move them to the correct categories. After that is done, you’ll notice that I will be redirecting the URLs from Domain Editorial over to Domain Name News. *Sniff* Good bye Domain Editorial, I’ll miss you.
Hey wait, maybe I’ll re-use the layout for something else, it’s too nice to throw away, don’t you think?
Targeted TRAFFIC auction live coverage over at DomainNameNews.
A new domain news project is launching in Beta today. Adam Strong and I partnered in order to bring you DomainNameNews.com. If all goes according to plan, the new site will be more of a group effort. I was more than happy when Adam approached me with his plans, as I had been looking for ways to take DomainEditorial.com to a new level. Initially I will continue to keep DomainEditorial going, but who knows where the journey will take us.
At the targeted TRAFFIC conference, which starts on Tuesday in New York City, Modern Gigabyte (the makers of the hosting billing software ModernBill), will be announcing the launch of their dnZoom tool. The system is a full hosted solution for domain monetization and management.
As Dan Kimball shared with me, one way that this product will be offered is a co-branded solution through parking and domain name registration companies. The platform connects to different registrars, marketplaces and parking providers (eNom, register.com, NetworkSolutions, tucows, EuroDNS, NameCheap, TDNAM, Afternic, Sedo and Domainsponsor) and diplayes the informaiton about your entire portfolio in one location.
I imagine that the registrars and parking companies will try to limit their offerings to their own, especially if they are going to give their product to their customer base for free. However you can often prove that you are the best by enabling your clients to compare.
Another question remains if domainers trust others with their sensitive data. ModernGigabyte has lots of experience in keeping data safe and private and has put a lot of that knowledge into this product, but some domainers might still prefer to handle this data in-house.
I for one think that this is just the first of many new tools that will help domainers manage their portfolios in a more automated fashion, which in turn will allow all of us to spend more time on sustaining and improving our businesses.
Find out more about the new product by visiting the Product Tour – you can also apply to be one of the 100 beta testers.
Moniker has recently published the list of all the domains to be offered in the live and silent auction for the targeted TRAFFIC conference. Trellian sells a detailed traffic report for all of the 3989 domains with many data points.
SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Demand Media, Inc., the next-generation social media company, today announced its acquisition of ExpertVillage.com, the premier Internet source for professional how-to videos filmed and produced by local filmmakers that feature experts on a broad range of topics. The acquisition significantly expands Demand Medias social media platform with a growing library of diverse video content to be distributed across its network of niche social media web properties and available for users to integrate into their Channelme.tv video sites.
Launched with video in 2006, ExpertVillage is a highly trafficked video portal for how-to information and the largest provider of made for the Internet video content. This content was created through ExpertVillages proprietary process wherein filmmakers select specific how-to topics and produce videos on that subject matter. The filmmaker engages an expert on the selected topic and produces approximately 15 short how-to videos.
“We intend on increasing the scale of ExpertVillages existing business and expanding into new content areas, said Demand Media co-founder and CEO, Richard Rosenblatt. While we have enhanced our media properties through textual, photographic and social media content, we were seeking a video solution that could be integrated into our platform. ExpertVillages video solution and its network of filmmakers epitomize our approach to new media and our scale will provide their filmmakers with substantially more topics to develop. We are anxious to begin working together as one company.”

Yesterday’s 60 minutes featured an interview with Barry Diller, Chairman and CEO of Interactive Corp. (IAC). The video summarizes his business life and how he got to be where he is today and where he wants to go. Interactive Corp. is quite an interesting mix of different companies, including such well known brands as ask.com, lendingtree, ticketmaster, realestate.com, citysearch, evite, excite, bloglines, gifts.com, collegehumor.com and match.com. I am sure someone there must also know a thing or two about domains. Especially interesting for me, that he also briefly mentioned ‘reviews’ in the interview. Nice to have a confirmation that we are on the right track.

Quoted from the DomainTools Blog:
You may recognize the name, Michael Collins ran Afternic with his brother for a few years (His brother still works there). Well, Michael moved on to run a new business that he had purchased called Speed and Truck World (Speed-Truck.com) but the call of the Domain Industry was too strong to keep him away. He was asked if he would be interested in joining the ICA by Ron Jackson as their new Executive Director. He was not that sure about the job until after he talking with some of the Board Members like Bob Martin and Frank Schilling.
Now that he has the job he said, I am not able to sell anything I dont believe in. I feel like I would be making a difference. For those of you that know Michael, he has a big heart has always treated his partners with a lot of respect. I personally think Michael is an excellent choice for the ICA position.
Congratulations on the new job Michael, I definitely agree with Jay on this being a great choice.
